Why trays crack
Stone resin trays are rigid and heavy, and they crack under point load — usually because the screed beneath them was uneven at installation and the tray is bridging a void. The crack appears years later. Repairing the surface without addressing the void means it cracks again.
Acrylic trays flex. Cracks start at the waste or along an unsupported edge, and they propagate. Caught early they fill and hold. Left, they run.
Ceramic trays chip rather than crack, usually at the threshold where things get dropped.

Listed buildings
Replacing a shower tray in an Edinburgh flat means taking out the enclosure, lifting the tiles around it, disturbing the waste, and re-tiling. In a listed building or a conservation-area property, that cascade can raise questions you did not want to ask — and tile matching in a 1900s tenement is not a thing that happens.

Do you need to disconnect the shower?
No. The tray is repaired where it sits. The enclosure stays, the tiles stay, the waste stays connected.
How long before I can use it?
Twenty-four hours for a full resurface. A chip repair is usable the same day.
My tray cracked once already and was repaired. Why did it come back?
Almost certainly because the tray is bridging a void in the screed beneath it. The surface was repaired; the cause was not. We look underneath before quoting.
Can you repair a stone resin tray?
