Who we are
My name's Richard. I run Bath Medic Edinburgh and my team and I have been repairing and re-enamelling baths, shower trays and sinks across Edinburgh and Scotland for 38 years.
When you call, you speak to me directly. Edinburgh is our city — and with 38 years on the tools here, we know its housing stock better than almost anyone. Georgian New Town flats with their original cast iron baths. Old Town tenements in the shadow of the Castle. Victorian terraces in Marchmont, Morningside and Newington. Modern developments in Leith and the waterfront. Listed buildings across the Old Town conservation area and the World Heritage Site.
We carried out chip repairs on 10 baths at St Christopher's Inn Edinburgh — one of the city's best-known hostels on the Royal Mile. High-turnover commercial bathrooms need reliable, fast repair to keep operating standards high. We deliver that.
With 38 years of experience, I've seen every type of bath damage across every type of Edinburgh property. Most problems are fixable. Most people are surprised how affordable the fix is.

What we do
All work done on-site by our team across Edinburgh and Scotland. Cast iron, acrylic, steel and porcelain — all bath types, all property types.
We spray a new surface directly onto your existing bath on-site — no plumbing, no removing anything. Strip back, prime and apply 3–4 coats of enamel. Edinburgh's Georgian and Victorian properties contain original cast iron baths that have been in use for over a century. Resurfacing them properly takes experience and the right materials. Thirty-eight years of both.
From £285 + VAT · 1-year guarantee
Colour-matched on-site to your bath's exact shade. Most chip repairs take 1–2 hours. We carried out chip repairs across 10 baths at St Christopher's Inn on the Royal Mile — fast, clean, colour-matched work that keeps a high-turnover commercial bathroom looking right. The same standard on every domestic job across Edinburgh.
From £140 + VAT · 1-year guarantee
Cracks, chips and discolouration repaired without replacement. Stone resin, ceramic and acrylic trays — all repaired on-site with no disconnecting required. Particularly important in Edinburgh's listed buildings and Old Town conservation area properties, where removing and replacing a shower tray can raise consent questions. Resurfacing avoids all of that.
From £150 + VAT
Ceramic, porcelain and composite sinks repaired on-site. Edinburgh's Georgian and Victorian properties often have original period basins worth preserving. We also handle commercial sink repair for hotels, hostels and restaurants across the city — St Christopher's Inn being one regular client.

Commercial — Royal Mile, Edinburgh
St Christopher's Inn on the Royal Mile is one of Edinburgh's best-known hostels, popular with visitors from around the world. High-turnover accommodation takes its toll on bathroom fittings — chips appear, surfaces wear, and a tatty bathroom undermines the whole guest experience. They called us in to repair chips across 10 baths, colour-matching each one on-site and blending the repairs invisibly.
Ten baths on the Royal Mile, in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle. Each one matched precisely, each one finished to a standard that stands up to daily guest use. That's what 38 years on the tools delivers.

Residential — Edinburgh Listed Building
A homeowner in a listed Edinburgh property called us about a cracked shower tray. Listed building status meant any works needed careful consideration — replacing the tray entirely would have raised consent questions and involved significant disruption to a protected property. Resurfacing it on-site involved no structural changes, no consent issues and no disruption to the fabric of the building.
We repaired the crack, recoloured the tray to match and left the same day. The homeowner had been putting it off for months worrying about what it would involve. It took a single visit. This is what 38 years of working in Edinburgh's historic properties teaches you — there's almost always a better way than ripping something out.

Residential — Edinburgh City Centre
A couple in a city centre Edinburgh flat called us about damage to their bath. Their property sits close to one of the city's most recognisable landmarks, in a building that forms part of Edinburgh's UNESCO World Heritage Site. Original fittings in properties like this are worth preserving — they belong to the building, and replacing them with modern alternatives is rarely an improvement.
We repaired the bath on-site, colour-matched precisely, and left it looking as it should in a flat of that quality and location. A single visit, no disruption to the building, and the original bath preserved.

What customers say
Reviews from homeowners, landlords and businesses across Edinburgh and Scotland.
Richard resurfaced our New Town tenement bath and it looks completely new. The colour match was perfect and you can tell this is someone who knows exactly what they're doing. Outstanding.
Catriona S — New Town, Edinburgh
We were worried about our listed building status but Richard dealt with everything perfectly. Shower tray repaired on-site, no consent issues, done in a day. Exactly what we needed.
Alistair M — Old Town, Edinburgh
Original cast iron bath in our Old Town flat that we thought was beyond saving. Richard re-enamelled it and it's genuinely like new. Saved us a huge amount compared to replacement.
Fiona D — Old Town, Edinburgh
Richard handles all my rental flats across Edinburgh. Always reliable, always professional, always the same high standard. Would not use anyone else.
Douglas F — Landlord, Edinburgh
Our Marchmont flat had the original Victorian bath in poor condition. Richard came out, assessed it and had it looking brand new by the afternoon. Brilliant value and brilliant work.
Moira H — Marchmont, Edinburgh

Edinburgh & the Lothians
Edinburgh has some of the finest housing stock in Scotland — and some of the most challenging to work in. Georgian New Town flats with original cast iron baths and period fixtures. Old Town tenements in the UNESCO World Heritage Site area. Victorian terraces in Marchmont, Morningside, Newington and Bruntsfield. Modern developments in Leith, Granton and the waterfront. Listed buildings throughout the Old Town and New Town conservation areas.
Working in Edinburgh's historic properties requires a level of care and experience that not every trade possesses. Listed buildings, conservation areas and World Heritage Site constraints mean that how you carry out a repair matters as much as the repair itself. Resurfacing is non-structural and non-invasive — which is exactly why it works so well in Edinburgh's protected properties.
Edinburgh's water supply comes from Glencorse and Threipmuir reservoirs in the Pentland Hills — soft Scottish water that is relatively gentle on bath surfaces compared to hard water areas in England. But original baths in properties that haven't been touched for decades still need thorough preparation and skilled resurfacing to come back properly.
