A dropped shampoo bottle, a chipped enamel edge, a hairline crack in an acrylic tub. Repaired on site, colour matched to your bath, in an hour or two. We did ten of them at St Christopher's Inn on the Royal Mile.
The job
The damaged area is cut back to sound material, cleaned and de-greased. A filler compound is built up in layers and levelled flush. Colour is mixed on site against your bath — not selected from a tin — and applied, then cured and polished back to the surrounding gloss.
Most repairs take between one and two hours. You can use the bath the same day.
Colour matching is the whole job. Whites vary enormously: a pre-war cast iron bath carries a warm ivory tone, a 1990s acrylic is bluish, a modern one is stark. A repair that is the wrong white is more visible than the chip was.
Commercial work
We repaired chips across ten baths at St Christopher's Inn on the Royal Mile. High-turnover commercial bathrooms take damage constantly, and the operator cannot close rooms for a week while baths are replaced.
Ten baths, colour matched, done over a short visit, rooms back in service the same day. That is the case for repair over replacement in one sentence.
We work for hotels, letting agents, student accommodation providers and landlords across Edinburgh on exactly this basis.

When a chip means something worse. A chip in an enamel-on-steel bath exposes bare metal, and bare metal rusts. Left alone, the rust creeps under the surrounding enamel and lifts it. Repairing a chip early is a £140 job. Ignoring it for two years turns it into a re-enamelling job.
Where we work
Common questions
Can you really match the colour?
Yes. Colour is mixed on site against your bath rather than taken from a stock tin. Done properly you cannot find the repair, which is what customers in the Old Town and New Town tell us most often.
How soon can I use the bath?
Same day. Most chip repairs are complete within one to two hours and the surface is usable after a short cure.
Is it worth repairing a small chip?
On an enamel-on-steel or cast iron bath, yes, and quickly. A chip exposes bare metal. It rusts, the rust spreads beneath the surrounding enamel, and what was a small repair becomes a full resurface.
Do you repair acrylic baths?
Yes. Acrylic behaves differently — it flexes, so cracks tend to appear at the rim and around the waste. The repair uses a different compound and needs the underlying flex addressed, or it comes back.
Do you work with landlords and letting agents?
Regularly. End-of-tenancy chip repair is a large part of our Edinburgh work. A repair invoice is far easier to justify in a deposit dispute than a replacement quote, and the flat is back in service the same day.
